Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are any stressful or traumatic events, which include neglect and abuse. ACEs include the following: Physical neglect, emotional neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, intimate partner violence, mother treated violently, substance misuse within household, household mental illness, parental separation or divorce, and incarcerated household member. These stressful and traumatic experiences have both short-term and long-term health impacts on the children.
